GE Appliances French Door Refrigerator Main Control Board Installation

To replace the main control board for your french door refrigerator, you need to be able to access the back of the refrigerator where the control board is located.
Slide the refrigerator away from the wall, far enough that you can get behind it. You may need to raise the front legs by turning them counterclockwise with a large pair of pliers.

For safety, be sure to disconnect the power to your refrigerator by unplugging it, once it is pulled away from the wall. On the back of the refrigerator, locate the main control board cover panel in the bottom left corner. The cover is held in place by two quarter inch hex head screws on the bottom and three tabs at the top.

Remove the two screws and slide the cover down to release it from the tabs. Some models may have additional screws or compression pins, instead of the tabs. For those models, those additional screws or pins must also be removed. To avoid damaging the connectors, do not pull on the wires. Only pull on the connectors themselves. Next, remove the quarter inch screw in the bottom left corner of the board and slide the board to the left to release it from the tabs on the right side that hold it in place.

To install the new control board, slide it into the tabs on the right and seat the plastic pins on the upper and lower left side of the control board. You may discard the quarter inch screw that has been replaced by a pin. Next, reconnect all of the wire harnesses. Replace the cover by sliding it back into the three upper tabs and securing it at the bottom with the two quarter inch hex screws.

Lastly, plug the refrigerator back into the power outlet and slide the entire unit back into place.
