How to repair a Beko tumble dryer start pause button

In this article I’m going to repair the start pause button on this Beko dryer this actually broke a couple of weeks back and I have actually had it in pieces a couple of times and I’ve tried gluing the component with three different types of glue and it won’s actually glue to fix the button you’re gonna need one of these which is a button panel light guide and these are approximately seven pounds in order to get the correct one you’re gonna need the model number for your machine which can be found there in the right hand corner so that’s the button and when you actually press it you can’t actually feel much resistance and it doesn’t spring back unlike the other ones to start off we’re going to remove this part which simply pulls out I’m then just going to open the door and then when I lift the machine up slightly and just pull it out these are very light and they are much lighter than a washing machine we now need to switch off and unplug the machine at the back of the machine we need to remove these three screws we can then slide the lid back off the machine and we can lift that clear we then need to remove this part because underneath there is actually a screw so if you just slide out the polystyrene bit then if you take a slotted screwdriver you can push that into the gap there and simply lever with the plastic part away and lift it up at the same time you might have to do that at both sides that is just held in position with those two plastic tabs we can now remove the three screws at the front there’s then a Philips head screw just in that hole we need to remove we can then with the panel up and out like so you do have quite a lot of movement on this because the wires are quite long apart from on the on/off button there’s actually four spade connectors on there so what I’ve done is in the previous times when I’ve disassembled it I’ve actually marked each one up, so if you look there you can see that I put a dot there and a dot there nothing on that one nothing on that one the other one has got two lines on and two lines on the switch and the other one has got a cross on it and a cross on the switch I can’t actually explain you that because I can’t get in there to film it so now we simply need to grab all of all four of these and just remove them from the switch if you don’t have a marker to mark those up you can of course take a picture using your mobile phone but it is important that you get them back in the correct the terminals I’m just going to try and explain you the cross so you can see there that’s the cross and then that’s the one with the two lines on it so it’s important to identify them before you remove them we just need to remove some other screws now some of these screws actually hold the circuit board to this panel on the front here and some of them actually hold a protective cover on the back of the PCB so we don’t actually need to remove all of the screws there is actually just three screws he’s one down there which is difficult for you to see there’s one there at the top and this one just down there so we’re just going to remove these three screws it is a lot easier when you do this if you have a screwdriver which is slightly magnetic and that will help you to remove the screws once you remove the three screws you should then be able to get hold of the circuit board and simply pull that out there’s actually four plastic tabs at the top there and they are actually holding that in position so we just need to gently ease the circuit board past each one of the tabs and sometimes it is easier if you just take a screwdriver and just gently lever them past the tabs we do need to remove this one electrical connector to remove that you need to press it in the tab and simply pull it off that will actually only go back in the one way so we can now lift up the PCB and leave that where it is and then move the front plastic panel you can actually see the proof marking the on the switch the two lines and the cross on that side which I couldn’t explain you earlier so that is the direct replacement part and as you can see I’ve tried to repair this one three times it so to start off with I’m going to move this small circuit board that just simply has two plastic tabs there which need pushing back and we can then carefully lift that out of position like so so that simply pushes back in there like that and we’ll just check that that’s working correctly then we press on that part we should hear it clicking the switch which it does we now just need to remove the rest of this this is quite simple because they are actually just on plastic tabs because we’re replacing the light guide I’m going to ensure if anything does break a break the light guide and not the plastic pieces which are fixed to the panel because it doesn’t actually matter if you break any of this because it’s being replaced so I’m just going to get the screwdriver and I’m just going to force the plastic away from the clips this is a bit tricky because you do need to lift it up at the same time so it’s just a case of leaving all the plastic pieces off we’ve just got the final one now and then we can lift that clear we now just need to remove the two buttons again flat bladed screwdriver and just push the tabs just pop them out like so so we can I’m just at the two buttons and we can push them back onto the new light guide They simply push it in like so and the course on the right hand side it’s also another button which we just need to pop out then we can simply push that in from that side like so so we’ve now got all three buttons in position we can now simply get that this is the easy part can simply align it and then all we need to do is push that down into position it’s a lot easier fitting the new one than what it is removing the old one I’ll explain you these down there at the bottom there are some spaces on the bottom of the PCB there’s some tabs which slot into those spaces and what we need to do is just put them in position so it’s in the correct place so if you turn the knob once it’s in the correct position you’ll find that the PCB goes almost flush back to the front of the plastic fascia once you’ve done that you can then simply push it all the way in and that will click into position and that also need to do is replace the three screws which we removed earlier once we’ve done that we can then take the small connector there and plug that back into the PCB that simply plugs back in it will only go one way we then just need to connect the wires onto the switch and obviously it is important that these go back where they came from so I’m going to look for the proof marking you just need to ensure that all four of those connectors are on firmly once you’ve done that you can then put the panel back and there are actually locating lugs at the bottom there which you will feel it locate and then it simply tilts back into position like so we can then replace the long screw at the front so we then got the three countersunk screws at the front we can then simply push that back in like so then we can slide the piece of polystyrene back in there once we’ve done that we can take the lid that simply goes over the polystyrene bit and when it locates properly there are some slots you just push that forwards it is as easy as that to fit the top back on the machine it’s very easy and the screws at the back are a bit different they look like so can that replace all three of those we could then plug the machine back in and switch that on now that switched back on we can push that back into position ensuring we don’t trap the wire or the pipe. almost flush back

that will actually only go back in the one way so we can now lift up the PCB and leave that where it is and then move the front plastic panel you can actually see the proof marking the on the switch the two lines and the cross on that side which I couldn’t explain you earlier so that is the direct replacement part and as you can see I’ve tried to repair this one three times it so to start off with I’m going to move this small circuit board that just simply has two plastic tabs there which need pushing back and we can then carefully lift that out of position like so so that simply pushes back in there like that and we’ll just check that that’s working correctly then we press on that part we should hear it clicking the switch which it does we now just need to remove the rest of this this is quite simple because they are actually just on plastic tabs because we’re replacing the light guide I’m going to ensure if anything does break a break the light guide and not the plastic pieces which are fixed to the panel because it doesn’t actually matter if you break any of this because it’s being replaced so I’m just going to get the screwdriver and I’m just going to force the plastic away from the clips this is a bit tricky because you do need to lift it up at the same time so it’s just a case of leaving all the plastic pieces off we’ve just got the final one now and then we can lift that clear we now just need to remove the two buttons again flat bladed screwdriver and just push the tabs just pop them out like so so we can I’m just at the two buttons and we can push them back onto the new light guide They simply push it in like so and the course on the right hand side it’s also another button which we just need to pop out then we can simply push that in from that side like so so we’ve now got all three buttons in position we can now simply get that this is the easy part can simply align it and then all we need to do is push that down into position it’s a lot easier fitting the new one than what it is removing the old one I’ll explain you these down there at the bottom there are some spaces on the bottom of the PCB there’s some tabs which slot into those spaces and what we need to do is just put them in position so it’s in the correct place so if you turn the knob once it’s in the correct position you’ll find that the PCB goes almost flush back to the front of the plastic fascia once you’ve done that you can then simply push it all the way in and that will click into position and that also need to do is replace the three screws which we removed earlier once we’ve done that we can then take the small connector there and plug that back into the PCB that simply plugs back in it will only go one way we then just need to connect the wires onto the switch and obviously it is important that these go back where they came from so I’m going to look for the proof marking you just need to ensure that all four of those connectors are on firmly once you’ve done that you can then put the panel back and there are actually locating lugs at the bottom there which you will feel it locate and then it simply tilts back into position like so we can then replace the long screw at the front so we then got the three countersunk screws at the front we can then simply push that back in like so then we can slide the piece of polystyrene back in there once we’ve done that we can take the lid that simply goes over the polystyrene bit and when it locates properly there are some slots you just push that forwards it is as easy as that to fit the top back on the machine it’s very easy and the screws at the back are a bit different they look like so can that replace all three of those we could then plug the machine back in and switch that on now that switched back on we can push that back into position ensuring we don’t trap the wire or the pipe.

I can just insert that again once you’ve done that we can then test the machines working so I’m just going to press the on button as you can see that is working so that’s how to fix any of these three buttons on the Beko condensing dryer if they won’t actually press in and they’re not returning back out it’s probably due to a faulty light guide at the back like that I hope you found this article useful if you haven’t done so already please subscribe to the website
