Spot Welding Tips, Rust Removal and DIY Garage Tips on Mark’s R&D Corner from Eastwood, Episode 1

use an eighth whatever bit you want start on it now with a hole like this what you can do is you can move that simply get an angle and move slow we can move it as far as you want, when you get back to the center point turn it right back up now you’re back on center as you can see there and then when you come in you’re finished size you’ll have the hole perfectly centered where you needed it now sheet metal you’re gonna be working on sheet metal a lot with your projects whether it’s automotive uh… ran into it here
general fab around the house drilling holes through sheet metal same thing you come through here once you have your punch-through you can end up with a bur on the back side every time That’s what you’re gonna end up with So again easy way to clean that up drill bit twice the diameter by hand couple turns will pull that bur right off here’s another trick you’ll notice once you get into anything over three eighths round drill bits can drill triangular shaped holes in sheet metal it’s a phenomenon that nobody really knows about but what we end up with is not what you wanted here’s the way to solve that problem start drilling your hole like we have here, we just started this one right when you feel the punch through right when you feel the tip break through the metal like you see there, the small point if your project allows you flip it over then go ahead finish the hole from the opposite side eliminate the bur and you end up with perfectly round hole this works great especially with your larger diameters, like I said, once you get into anything over three eighths go ahead punch through flip it over and finish it from the other side now what i want to do is talk about cotter pins simple little product can save your life or end it and cause disaster what I want to explain you is a quick tip how a cotter pin is installed what we got here is just a typical upper ball joint. help around the
It may look good but it’s totally incorrect There is only one way to install a cotter pin and one way to remove it simply use a pair of side cutters flatten it out pull it out in one piece when you install a cotter pin it can only go one way install it straight up same thing take your side cutters trim this one here this piece here you want no lower than your your castle nut right down there when you trim it just simply hold your hand over sides folded down same thing with this this side fold flat one-half diameter of the stud just roll that right over now let’s check out four of the latest tools from eastwood now let’s take a moment to explain you some great new products that we got here at eastwood these things are new rust brush and what they do is tear off any coatings or rust simple to use simply put it into any three-eighths corded or cordless drill.

But how about replacing them? best thing you can do is utilize our new Eastwood spot weld kit what this kit does is allow you to take your mig welder and create OE looking but structurally sound spot welds.

Look at the backside full penetration through both panels and you end up with exact resistance type spot weld that was original done at the factory the kit itself very easy we the specially designed clamping pliers these cutouts here, what that does is any type of pinch welds allows you to clamp and secure the pieces together and this nozzle with these leg extensions that we have machined into this is a current mig nozzle but you do is simply remove that install the eastward spot weld nozzle what these two legs give you is the exact standoff needed from the trip to the substrate every time this is what achieves the repeatability and all the spot welds looking the same second feature of them is alignment once your panel is clamped here this allows you to come in and the legs position right into the clamping area you know exactly where the spot weld will be every time but we also include his double ended three sixteen drill bits these are for doing plug welds if you got a small welder or you’re working with some really heavy gauge material what you do is take the top panel go ahead and drill your plug weld hole through that clamp them and using the tip do the same spot weld through there, it insurers penetration through those panels now these pieces here this one is still warm this is something that we just did I’m going to explain you what you’re going to have to do to get these things apart literally you’re gonna have to tear the metal around those welds what we have right there that’s the only way these welds are coming apart so you can be assured you’re getting complete and the OE appearance you’re going after so go ahead click the link below to get your kit
